The first thing we need to understand is what a CNAME Record is and, to do this, we need to find out what DNS is. DNS stands for Domain Name Service which allows us to convert our Hosting Server's IP address into something that is readable for humans.

For example, if you had a website called and you visit this address, your computer will check which server this DNS Record ( points to and then you will connect to that web server.

This may sound quite complicated, but it is important that we understand how DNS works, so that when we make changes to DNS records, we know why we are changing them and how the changes will affect our live website.

As a final note, it is important to know that we have various DNS Record Types. The reason for this is so that we can separate the different function of our domain name (or website name).

For the purposes of this guide we will talk about the following DNS Record Types:

  • A Record
  • CNAME Record

Now that we understand what a CNAME Record is and what the function of DNS is, lets continue and go through the steps needed to set up CNAME Records for Google Apps on Website Panel.

Step 1: Log in to your Customer Zone and Click on My Services, and then on Hosting:

Step 2: Select your Shared Hosting Product and click on the View Details Button.

Step 3: Scroll down until you see the option to Login to your Control Panel.

Step 4: You will now be logged into your Web Site Panel Account.

Step 5: Click on Domains and then click on your desired domain.

Step 6: Click on Edit DNS Zone Records.

Step 7: Click Add Record.

Now we can start to add the CNAME records for your Google APPS.
