Mail servers send and receive email messages on the Internet. MX (Mail Exchanger) records specify and prioritize the incoming mail servers that receive email messages sent to your domain name. There is often no need to modify your MX records. Sometimes you have to update them if you host a website with one network (such as ours) but you have email hosted in another e.g. Office 365
In the case where you are hosting your emails on another network, you would need to update the MX records to "point" the mail in that direction.
To do this you would first need to login to cPanel.
Select Zone Editor under the Domains section once you are logged in.
You should now see a "Manage" option next to the domain in question.
In this section you are able to add a new record and edit or delete existing records.
Once you have successfully added the records, you would need to make one last change within cPanel. On the cPanel home page please click on "Email Routing"
You will have a few options to choose from but we only make use of two.
Local Mail Exchanger - If we are your email provider
Remote Mail Exchanger - If the email is being hosted outside of our network. Even if the mail provider resides within South Africa you would still need to select this option.
Click on "Change" once you selected the correct routing option.
PLEASE NOTE - EVEN IF THE MX RECORDS ARE CHANGED, YOU WILL ENCOUNTER INCOMING EMAIL ERRORS IF THE EMAIL ROUTING IS NOT SET CORRECTLY.
MX records does not need to propagate so your emails should work within a few minutes. Should there be any issues please contact your mail hosting provider if all steps above have been followed.
